sunny day two weeks ago.........
Well we had a sunny day about two weeks ago now, and that is when I became aware we couldn't ignore it any longer! Sun shinning in a window has a way of showing things that on any other day have become normal. Remember when Jim and I painted the inside of our house one room a month a few years ago?, well, we still love it, but we never painted the white trim. It seemed okay at the time and so we just let it be. Well, it doesn't seem okay anymore. That one sunny day shinned all over the dirty trim! And a lot of other stuff that winter has a tendency to hide. So? Well yesterday we started painting trim. This time we will do one room a week! We still have to tear rooms apart, which will be good spring cleaning, but we've stepped up our pace. It is so bad, we now have to do two coats. Jim does the doors and all stuff surrounding the door. I am the one crawling on the floor doing the baseboards. That one day of sun has created a "to do" list that will keep us busy for months!

happy anniversary.......
Well, my little cyber journal just had it's first year anniversary and I totally missed it!!!! April 9th, 2007 was my first post. Back in March of this year, I knew I was coming up on the one year anniversary of my journey into the blogasphere world, and planned to do a very savvy look back. Alas. It is now the? 15th? of April and I haven't had time to look back at yesterday! It seems the slower we get, the faster life comes at us and looking back is a luxury for when we steal time away from the everyday and do the vacation thing. So maybe next vacation I will do the savvy look back. And before I leave here and race out the door, just a few things coming up that my very savvy friends are up to. Mary Lou is in New York this week doing her staged reading of her Immigrant's Table at the Tenement Museum, plus her new book will be out/is out? this week. Denise Winter (artistic director) opens an amazing show at KCPT, Conference of the Birds. A feast for the eyes. Picture a stage covered in white sand.......! Don't want to give too much away! One of the young girls, Teresa, got a personal visit from the governor at the gallery last week! So on we all go! I worked with Denise's partner, Albert, yesterday, creating video images for the show opening this Friday at the theatre! Stage covered in white sand......and you know! So Happy Anniversary little blog!

Lose, lose.......
Sometimes a situation is just plain lose, lose. That's what I found myself in yesterday. I had to make a trip to the far, far away mall to return some linens that didn't work out. My first stop was the fabulous Ross, where, if you haven't checked out their linens aisles, you must! Incredible mark downs! You just have to be a bit ready to dig!, but the mining is well worth it! (One of the young girls taught me this the week before) Anyway, I had already made my return, dug through the linens for replacements, found what I needed and placed myself in one of the loooooonnnnng lines at checkout! Did I say LOOONnnnnng line? Reminder, never go to Ross on Sunday afternoon. We plodded forward, I had pushed my patience button and waited like everyone else. In front of me, were a mother and daughter team. As we inched closer to checkout, little did I know that within the next 10 minutes, I would want to commit a heinous crime that would not involve a bit of sympathy after I beat them both soundly. It was FINALLY their turn. The little girl, maybe eight or nine years old, was very excited about a pair of boots that her mom was getting for her. When they got to the counter, the checkout girl asked if the little girl wanted to wear the boots out. She said yes, of course!, so the counter girl rid the boots of all the tags and the little girl put them on. Fine. Well the little girl could hardly walk in them because they had a wedge heel about three inches high. Right out of the gate, not a good choice for a young girl. Then it began. Unbelievably to me the duo started a "should we or shouldn't we" episode at CHECK OUT!!
"Honey, do you think those will work for you?"
"Yes!"
"I don't think you can walk in them."
"Yes, I can. See! (she walks back and forth)
"Walk over there and back!"
(are you kidding me? walk over there and back?!!! This is CHECK OUT!!!!)
"Don't you like them?"
"Um, well, not much."
"YOU DON'T?"
"(Leaning casually on the counter now watching her darling prance about in three inch HEELS!) Um. I don't know."
Oh my god, just shoot me in the head!
........it continues on and on and on. Usually I would say something, but the mother had attitude!
The counter girl was too shy to move them on and allowed this little dance to go on and on and on! I was starting to heat up, but knew this was a lose, lose situation. . The mother was one of those people that you knew if you pushed her button?, she was going to attitude you to death! It was like she almost dared anyone to say a word to her! I almost bit my tongue in half keeping my contained tirade inside. As the wait got longer, all the people in back of me were finally on their cells passing the time or had moved to another line. I was just stuck. FINALLY they make some sort of decision. I have lost track of the whole thing and occupied my time erasing old text messages from my cell. My turn? The counter girl apologizes, I just ignore the whole thing. I can't even talk. Now the counter girl can't make change for me (oh god!) and I just say forget it! Keep the change! I walk out and who do you think is parked right next to me? The dynamic duo! My only solace is that "what goes around, comes around!" Wish I could be there to see it!

DIY.....
Three years ago Jim and I finished painting the inside of our house. We hate that sort of thing. DYI is not our forte. If something breaks our reaction is to stand looking at whatever doesn't work anymore and wonder what to do about it. Usually the repair involves a stranger in our house who wants alot of money after they take ten minutes, or less, to fix the broken "whatcha-ma- giggy". Three years ago when we realized the inside of our house had somehow become a very dingy off white, we got the bright idea that we could actually paint it ourselves! The idea of tackling the whole interior was a bit overwhelming. After all, you have to completely take apart each room, move all the furniture to another room, paint and then put everything back! Ugh! Then there was the challenge of color. I knew I didn't want white. I truly wanted color. After many discussions about color choices and ways to proceed, we decided to take it slow and paint one room a month. We would give each room two days and move slowly through the house. The first color we agree on for a back bedroom was a blue gray. Very relaxing. We then did the TV Room the same color. I became braver as we started marching through our two-day-a-month project and decided a yummy yellow for the living room would look really nice with the gray. Jim was leery, but we did it! We moved to the dining area (which in real life is a sitting area) with a celery green! We were getting very brave! The kitchen became a aqua/green/blue and the ceilings were all yellow! Our bedroom became a darker shade of celery green and our bathroom was a combo of yellowy/green! We never became better painters, but we really fell in love with color. Now the point of this is that I have loved the color for the last three years and never been sorry for our bold choices! The weird thing is that now when I see the home decor items in the stores, towels, linens, etc., they are the same colors Jim and I painted our house three years ago! We are dumb founded that we actually chose the same colors that Martha Stewart chose for much of her linen and bath thingys!
